Galabin Waterfall Hiking Route

Galabin Waterfall Hiking Trail

Today’s hiking trail is to one of the most beautiful regions of southern Azerbaijan, Lerik. In general southern regions vary with their unique culture, nature and history. Talish minority of the country consists majority here. Climate of the region itself is not the same as in the north. Whenever it is fall in the north, you may still feel summer in the south, as well as snow can been seen in the north where it is still green around in the south.

It takes about 3-3.5 hours to get to Piran region from Baku. In order to get to Galabin village our bus stops on the way and we change our cars to offroad ones to continue through the village road. From here the road takes directly to the village but as a hiking tour group we stop the way near the village and take a different route and start to walk through the forest.

This hiking trail is quite easy and leisurely and no sharp ascents exist on the way. Along the route we see unique and tall trees specific to Talish mountains.

We also get to cross a small river on our way.

This is a good place to rest and store some water. After this part village road goes on with many u turns and after a walk of 1.5-2 hours we reach the village.

Before going into the village center, we take our way to Lower Galabin Waterfall first. This is obviously one of the most beautiful waterfalls of the country and almost never runs out of water. The trail taking to waterfall from the village is rather interesting and beautiful.

We descend to the bottom of waterfall and reach the small water part in front of it like a lake. Those who love taking photos and videos in nature this part is for you.

You also have an opportunity to swim in the waterfall and its small lake if you like.

After resting in the waterfall we return to village where we have our tea break in a village house. There is an amazing view from the village house and kids around are lovely to play with.  After getting rid of physical tiredness we get off to walk to Upper Galabin waterfall.

The trail taking to this waterfall is a little extreme as it passes by steep mountain trails. There are also several ascents and descents on the way to the waterfall.

As we reach the rocky part like a cave near the waterfall we become amused with the beauty of nature and water coming down the rocks with strong speed. Here we are not able to approach the waterfall but only observe it from the side. You also have to be careful on this part and make sure to step correctly not to slip as it is high above the river.

Spending our time here we start our way back to the village. As we arrive in our village house, we sit around a table in the yard and have conversation with village people. They sometimes present their local products that they produce such as butter, chees, honey and so on. Some tour attendees prefer to buy from them and consume it back in the city. Time comes for us to return and from the village the offroad cards drive us back to our bus directly from where we head back to the capital –Baku.
